Pinecone Load

About Pinecone: Load

Pinecone: Load is an n8n node that lets you insert vector embeddings into Pinecone, a fully managed vector database. When building AI applications that need to search through your own documents, product catalogues, or knowledge bases, you need somewhere to store the embeddings that represent your data. This node handles that storage step, taking vectors from your n8n workflow and loading them into a Pinecone index for later retrieval.

Pinecone is popular because it removes the operational overhead of managing vector infrastructure. You do not need to worry about indexing, sharding, or scaling — Pinecone handles all of that. The n8n node supports batch upserts with metadata, namespace isolation, and configurable vector dimensions, making it straightforward to build production-grade RAG pipelines entirely within n8n.

Our team at Osher Digital has implemented Pinecone-backed search systems for clients who prefer managed infrastructure over self-hosted options. For custom AI development projects involving document retrieval or semantic search, Pinecone paired with n8n provides a reliable foundation. We also use it in AI agent development where agents need to reference large knowledge bases. If you need help designing your vector storage architecture or choosing between managed and self-hosted options, get in touch with our team.

How it works

We work hand-in-hand with you to implement Pinecone: Load

Step 1

Create a Pinecone account and index

Sign up at pinecone.io and create a new index. Set the vector dimensions to match your embedding model — 1536 for OpenAI ada-002, or 3072 for text-embedding-3-large. Choose cosine as the distance metric for text search use cases.

Step 2

Set up Pinecone credentials in n8n

In n8n, create a new Pinecone API credential with your API key from the Pinecone console. This credential will be used by both the Load and Query nodes across your workflows.

Step 3

Generate embeddings from your source data

Before loading into Pinecone, your text data needs to be converted into vectors. Add an Embeddings node (such as OpenAI Embeddings) upstream in your workflow to transform your text chunks into numerical vectors.

Step 4

Add and configure the Pinecone: Load node

Place the Pinecone: Load node after your embeddings step. Select your Pinecone credential, specify the index name, and optionally set a namespace to organise your vectors logically within the index.

Step 5

Map your vector data and metadata fields

Configure the node to receive the embedding vector from your upstream node and attach metadata like source document title, URL, and date. This metadata becomes searchable and returnable during query operations.

Step 6

Run and verify the data load

Execute the workflow and check the Pinecone console to confirm vectors have been loaded. Verify the vector count matches your expected document count, then run a test query to ensure retrieval works correctly.
