About Flow

Flow (by Microsoft, part of Power Automate) is a cloud-based workflow automation tool, and the n8n Flow node lets you connect it to your broader automation infrastructure. If your organisation uses Microsoft’s ecosystem but also relies on tools outside that environment, this node bridges the gap — letting you pass data between Power Automate flows and n8n workflows without manual handoffs or custom API development.

Many businesses end up with automation spread across multiple platforms. Marketing might use one tool, operations another, and IT might have Power Automate handling internal Microsoft 365 processes. The Flow node in n8n lets you unify these by triggering Power Automate flows from n8n or pulling data from them into your n8n workflows. This is particularly useful for organisations with significant Microsoft 365 investments who also need to automate processes involving non-Microsoft tools like Slack, Airtable, or custom databases.

Our business automation team at Osher frequently works with companies that have a mix of Microsoft and non-Microsoft tools. Rather than forcing everything into one platform, we help design architectures where n8n and Power Automate each handle what they’re best at, with clean handoffs between them. The Flow node makes these cross-platform workflows practical and maintainable, so your team isn’t stuck choosing between ecosystems.

How it works

We work hand-in-hand with you to implement Flow

Step 1

Configure Power Automate HTTP Trigger

In Power Automate, create a flow with an HTTP request trigger (or use an existing flow). This gives you a URL endpoint that n8n can call to start the flow and pass data to it.

Step 2

Add the Flow Node in n8n

In your n8n workflow editor, add a Flow node. Configure it with the necessary authentication details to connect with your Microsoft Power Automate environment.

Step 3

Set Up Authentication

Configure OAuth2 or API key authentication depending on your Power Automate setup. This ensures n8n has the proper permissions to trigger flows and exchange data with your Microsoft environment securely.

Step 4

Map Input Data

Define the data payload you want to send from n8n to Power Automate. Map fields from your upstream n8n nodes to the parameters expected by your Power Automate flow’s trigger schema.

Step 5

Handle Response Data

If your Power Automate flow returns data, configure the Flow node to capture and process the response. Use downstream n8n nodes to act on the returned data — whether that’s storing it, transforming it, or routing it to another system.

Step 6

Test the Cross-Platform Workflow

Run a test execution to confirm data passes correctly between n8n and Power Automate. Check both platforms to verify the flow triggers successfully and any return data is captured accurately in n8n.
