About NocoDB
NocoDB is an open-source platform that turns any SQL database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, SQLite) into a spreadsheet-like interface with a REST API. Think of it as a self-hosted alternative to Airtable. The n8n NocoDB node lets you create, read, update, and delete records in NocoDB tables directly from your automation workflows, giving you a flexible data layer that non-technical team members can view and edit through a familiar spreadsheet interface while your automations work with the same data through the API.
The problem NocoDB solves is the gap between developers who want proper databases and business users who want spreadsheets. Instead of building a custom admin panel every time someone needs to view or edit data, you point NocoDB at your database and it generates a usable interface automatically. The n8n node then lets your automations read and write to those same tables, so you have one source of truth that both humans and machines can work with.
At Osher Digital, we use NocoDB as the data backbone in many of the business automation systems we build for clients. It works particularly well as a lightweight CRM, a project tracker, an inventory database, or a content management system — anywhere you need structured data that both your team and your n8n workflows need to access. Because NocoDB is self-hosted, your data stays on your infrastructure, which matters for Australian businesses with data sovereignty requirements.

How it works
We work hand-in-hand with you to implement NocoDB
As NocoDB consultants we work with you hand in hand build more efficient and effective operations. Here’s how we will work with you to automate your business and integrate NocoDB with integrate and automate 800+ tools.
Step 1
Define Your Data Requirements
We document what data your team needs to track — contacts, orders, inventory, projects, or whatever your use case requires. We define the table structures, field types, relationships between tables, and what views different team members need. This is essentially database design presented in terms your team can validate.
Step 2
Deploy NocoDB on Your Infrastructure
We spin up a NocoDB instance on your server (Docker on a VPS, cloud VM, or on-premises server), connect it to a PostgreSQL or MySQL database, and configure backups, SSL, and user authentication. If you already have a database you want to expose through NocoDB, we connect to it directly.
Step 3
Create Tables, Views, and Permissions
We create the table structures, configure field types (text, number, date, linked record, attachment, formula), and set up views for different use cases — a Kanban board for project tracking, a gallery view for product listings, a grid view for data entry. We configure user roles so each team member has appropriate access.
Step 4
Build n8n Workflows That Use NocoDB
We create the n8n workflows that read from and write to your NocoDB tables. This might include pushing form submissions into a contacts table, updating order status based on shipping API callbacks, or generating reports from NocoDB data. Each workflow uses the NocoDB node with proper filtering and error handling.
Step 5
Test End-to-End Data Flow
We test the complete flow — data entering through forms or APIs, being processed by n8n, landing in NocoDB, and being visible to your team in the correct views. We also test the reverse direction — team members editing records in NocoDB and those changes being picked up by n8n workflows. We verify data integrity and permission boundaries.
Step 6
Train Your Team and Go Live
We walk your team through the NocoDB interface, showing them how to use views, filters, and forms. We provide documentation on the table structures and workflow connections. We deploy to production, enable database backups, and monitor for the first two weeks to catch any issues. Ongoing support covers both the NocoDB instance and the connected n8n workflows.
