Workast

About Workast

Workast is a task management tool built specifically for Slack. If your team already lives in Slack and needs a lightweight way to turn conversations into tasks, assign work, and track progress without leaving the Slack interface, Workast fills that gap. You create tasks from Slack messages with a command or reaction, assign them to team members, set due dates, and track completion — all inside Slack.

Workast adds task boards, recurring tasks, project spaces, and basic reporting on top of Slack’s native conversation model. It is not trying to replace full project management platforms like Jira or Asana. Instead, it catches the work that would otherwise be lost in chat: action items from discussions, quick requests, follow-ups, and ad-hoc tasks that do not warrant creating a ticket in a heavier system.

Workast has an API that can connect to n8n for automating task creation and management. For example, n8n can create Workast tasks when specific events happen in other tools — a form submission, a customer support ticket, or a CRM status change — and the task appears directly in the relevant Slack channel. For Slack-first teams that want structured task tracking without adding another app to their workflow, Workast keeps everything in one place. Talk to us about automating your team workflows.

How it works

We work hand-in-hand with you to implement Workast

Step 1

Install Workast in Your Slack Workspace

We add the Workast app to your Slack workspace and configure which channels it operates in. We set up project spaces for your key teams or workstreams and map each project to the corresponding Slack channel so tasks created in that channel are automatically organised.

Step 2

Define Task Workflows

We establish how your team will use Workast: which types of work become tasks, who can assign work, what statuses tasks move through, and how due dates are managed. This keeps usage consistent across the team rather than having everyone use it differently.

Step 3

Set Up Recurring Tasks

For routine work — weekly reports, daily checklists, monthly reviews — we create recurring tasks with the right frequency, assignee, and due dates. These appear automatically on schedule so nothing gets forgotten.

Step 4

Connect External Triggers via n8n

Using n8n and the Workast API, we automate task creation from external systems. A customer support ticket might create a follow-up task in the account management channel. A form submission might create an onboarding task. A monitoring alert might create a task for the ops team.

Step 5

Configure Notifications and Reminders

We set up Slack notifications for task assignments, approaching due dates, and overdue items. These notifications go directly into Slack so team members do not need to check a separate app. We also configure daily or weekly digest messages summarising outstanding tasks.

Step 6

Train the Team

We run a short training session covering how to create tasks from messages, use slash commands, manage due dates, and view project boards. We also train team leads on the reporting view so they can track completion rates and workload balance across their team.
