How it works

Step 1
Create a Xata account and database
Sign up at xata.io and create a new database. Define your table schema with the columns you need — text fields, numbers, and optionally a vector column if you plan to use semantic search in your workflows.
Step 2
Set up Xata credentials in n8n
Generate an API key from the Xata dashboard and create a new Xata credential in n8n. Enter your API key and workspace URL so n8n can authenticate with your Xata database.
Step 3
Add the Xata node to your workflow
Drag the Xata node into your n8n canvas and select the operation you need — Create, Update, Delete, Get, or Search. Connect it to your upstream data source or processing nodes.
Step 4
Configure the table and field mappings
Select your target database and table from the dropdown menus. Map your workflow data fields to the corresponding Xata columns. For vector operations, ensure your embedding field maps to the vector column you defined in your schema.

Set up search or query parameters
If using the search operation, configure your search query type — full-text for keyword matching or vector for semantic similarity. Set filters, sort order, and result limits to control what data comes back from Xata.
