Implementing Mailgun

Step 1

Set Up Your Mailgun Domain

Add and verify your sending domain in Mailgun. Configure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC DNS records to authenticate your domain. This step is critical for email deliverability and avoiding spam filters.

Step 2

Generate Your API Key

Create an API key in your Mailgun dashboard. You can use a domain-specific sending key for better security, which limits the key to sending emails from a single domain rather than granting full account access.

Step 3

Add the Mailgun Node to Your Workflow

Insert the Mailgun node into your automation workflow and enter your API key and sending domain. Select the operation: send an email, retrieve message events, manage mailing lists, or validate an email address.

Step 4

Compose the Email

Set the recipient, subject line, and email body. Use data from previous workflow nodes to personalise the content. Choose between plain text, HTML, or a Mailgun template. Add attachments if needed.

Step 5

Configure Tracking and Tags

Enable open and click tracking if you need engagement data. Add custom tags to categorise emails for reporting. Set up webhook endpoints to receive delivery notifications, bounce alerts, and complaint events.

Step 6

Send a Test Email and Verify Delivery

Run your workflow and send a test email to verify it arrives in the inbox (not spam). Check the Mailgun logs to confirm delivery status. Review the email rendering across different email clients if you are using HTML templates.
